Stonestar All was peaceful for the cats of Soaringclan as they settled into Soaringclan’s camp, those who were on day duties ready to settle for a night of rest and laying their heads down in their nest till the sun rose, and hopefully warmed their pelts underneath its rays. Despite the nip of cold that lingered in the air as Leafbare came closer to the clan cats territories, leaving a howling wind to echo outside of the caves walls, the moonlight that shined through the cave’s opening brought a sense of comfort and peace to Soaringclan, accompanied by a sky clear of clouds. A rare sight for the season, but appreciated for the night nonetheless. Stonestar was not resting like his clanmates were, however. The tom-cat had been hearing concerning reports revolving around the tunnels and paths. Fennelsong’s death was not a tale that went often unheard of by the cats of Soaringclan, and the reports that the stony tom-cat was receiving revolving around frost and debri forming were beginning to become worrisome… Which was why Stonestar restlessly retreated from his den, and straight for the top off the rocks hanging above to call for his clanmates. ”Cats of Soaringclan,” comes Stonestar’s familiar call, his voice hanging onto the cave’s walls and echoing throughout. The tom-cat grimaces, not meaning to be so loud. ”I apologize for intruding on your slumbers… But I have a request revolving around our tunnels.” The grey cat continues as his heterochromatic gaze wanders over his clanmates, eyebrows furrowing together at the sight of some disgruntled faces. Perhaps this could have waited until morning, and he could ignore the steady unease building in his stomach. Stonestar pushes on. ”I am looking to form a patrol of any cat willing to partake in night duties, revolving around patrolling and searching the tunnels in our territory. We’ll be beginning at Wolfbane’s Cave.” Stonestar continues, lifting his head in an attempt to straighten his stance and force his confidence to re-arise. ”I understand that the timing is unfortunately late, but I have heard numerous reports from excavators of ice and debris making an appearance in the tunnels. I would rather be safe than sorry by sorting out this situation sooner rather than later. I assure you that those who participate in this patrol will be rewarded greatly for their efforts.” Who could say no to free things, after all? He perks his ears, curling his tail around his body before turning his sights onto the first Excavator that he could see. ”Ebonystep,” The tom-cat calls. ”I would appreciate it if you were a part of this patrol— perhaps even lead, considering you’ll know the tunnels better than some of those who may wish to attend. Myself included.” With this said, he looks back toward his clanmates with a hum. ”I am allowing both adult ranked and Novice ranked cats to join us for this patrol, although I recommend that Novices have their mentors with them.”

Ebonystep BOT 13/11/2022 01:44
With the calling of his name to lead this cave exploration, he suddenly felt a hot wave of fear. Being told to lead something, especially something of high importance, was extremely nerve wracking to the young tom. He mainly lead a secluded little life, avoiding his clanmates as much as possible. He was never prepared for this leadership, however he knew of someone that was. With a swift motion, Ebonystep quickly crouched over to Crowstrike. He curled up to the large tom and set his front paws on Crowstrike's before looking up to him. Ebonystep is known to not ask for help unless he is desperate. This seems like the dirt covered tom sees Crowstrike as someone trustworthy enough to help him so early on in this adventure...

Crowstrike BOT 13/11/2022 01:48
After emerging from his den the leader quickly called for a patrol. Crowstrike wasn’t super thrilled for the wake up call but when Ebony came over he smiled at the young tom, gave Lionheart a small boop on the nose, and agreed to go too. ”Seems I’m being summoned, I’ll be glad to go!” he said, if a bit too loudly for the night.

Ebonystep BOT 13/11/2022 01:54
With an awkward smile, Ebonystep got off of Crowstrike's feet and went to sit somewhere quiet in the hopes that someone else wouldn't join the patrol. He would rather not have to interact with more cats, but Stonestar wouldn't allow it anyways. With the beginning of ice and debris formations, who knows what would have happened to the tunnels...

Branchpaw yawned, eyes tired as he walked to join the rest of his clanmates to listen to what Stonestar had to say. Seeing the form of his father and mother, he plopped himself down beside the pair. Pressing his side against his mother's, he stared up at Stonestar, becoming more and more alert as he spoke of the tunnels. At last! An opportunity to explore more of the tunnels like he wanted to! When Ebonystep asked Crowstrike to come with, he couldn't help but let out a "Me too, Papa! I'll come with you!"

Meadowpaw BOT 13/11/2022 02:47
When she heard Stonestar’s voice, she immediately woke up. For a second, she believed that it Stonestar saying it was time to train. Thinking she’s late, she’s quick to get out of the den, ready to apologize, but she was confused to see that it was still night time and everyone else was gathering. Wanting to hide her confusion, she found her family and joined them. Specifically, she sat beside Crowstrike and allowed herself to press against his side to mimic Branchpaw. Ideally, Meadowpaw wouldn’t openly volunteer for the night patrol because it would worry her parents. If her parents join the patrol, they could get distracted if they knew their kits were patrolling too. However, Branchpaw volunteered immediately after the news. Meadowpaw silently sighs, before forging up some excitement to match Branchpaw. The very least Meadowpaw can do now is to watch out for her brother, so their parents don’t have to. “If Branchpaw is going, I’ll go too! Family patrol! Let’s go!”
Avatar
Crowstrike BOT 13/11/2022 02:59
Sharing a look with his mate, Crowstrike seemed a bit hesitant at first to let his kits join but thought a little experience in all parts of the clan jobs wouldn’t be a bad idea! He gave a quick nod to Stonestar giving his approval.

”HEY! You think you can- shit, you can call for some super Fucking sick adventure or whatever and not invite me? Puh-lease.” Rustlepaw would streak out into view, immediately pacing her way towards Stonestar’s pillar. The russet-dappled apprentice’s black fur bore a well groomed sheen, and her green eyes bore into Stonestar’s own. Indicative of a challenge as she cocked an eyebrow before tilting her head. Assessing her… dad’s place up on that rock coyly. Hmph. She narrowed her eyes. Stonestar was probably hoping she wouldn’t go on this ice-digging mission in the tunnels. Likely ‘cause he knew that she’d be good at it - and god forbid anyone except for Stonestar was the centre of attention. Though that bitterness tasted sweet as it lingered, and the idea that she might be able to actually show her father what she was made of pulled through. ”I’m going~.” Rustlepaw added, then, bouncing on the balls of her heels as she strode in a flashy circle. ”If you say no I’ll go anyway and probably get crushed by something suuuuper painful and big, like a rock, so unless you want my blood on your paws…?” Rustlepaw batted her eyelashes towards Stonestar, tucking her tail to the side. Though her tone was sickeningly sweet, there was a warning there that was hard to shake.

Raccoonspring BOT 13/11/2022 15:30
Ugh, what kind of monster would awake him this late in the evening? Ah, it was his brother...he shouldn't have been surprised. The gray tabby let out a quiet, seemingly pained groan as he covered his blue eyes with his paw once more, rolling onto his side as he desperately attempted to fall back asleep. But Stonestar was going on and on...it seemed important. And if it was important, it might be a threat to his family. His fur was a mess, but that wasn't anything new. The fur on the side of his face was completely flattened from his previous, formerly-serene slumber, and his pale eyes drooped from both disappointment and need for sleep (as if he didn't get enough already). Raccoonspring slowly approached the small cluster of gathered cats, his paws dragging against the stony ground as he moved at a snail's pace. There was something about tunnel issues, something about needing a patrol to fix said issues...well, he'd happily step aside and let the more "experienced" cats take care of that, but then Stonestar mentioned his interest in attending this patrol. Wait wait wait- this could be dangerous. He couldn't have Stonestar getting smashed by some rocks- he was his brother, and he loved him! And now, Rustlepaw... Like it or not, she was family to him. He wouldn't let his favorite niece go in on this alone. "I'll tag along." The lazy tom spoke up, glancing over to Rustlepaw before ruffling the fur on her head with one of his wide paws. "Someone has to keep Rust out of trouble, or at least be there to cheer her on when she does get into it." Because everyone knew ae would. ...But in all seriousness, he couldn't bear to let Rustlepaw wander off into the tunnels without good 'ol uncle Raccoonspring being there to make sure she was safe. Fun was great and all, but he wouldn't lose any family- even if Stonestar didn't want to father her.

[ Stonestar ] Relief floods over the tom-cat as a decent grouping of his clanmates agree to the patrol— his heterochromatic gaze wanders over the crowd of those who awoke and responded positively to the late night announcement, before drifting toward a more specific audience attempting to garner his attention... Starting with Rustlepaw ( shit— ) and to his surprise, his lazy brother Raccoonspring. Furrowing his brows together, the grey furred leader reluctantly directed his sights to the she-cat glaring up at him. He's reminded all too much of himself as he gazes at her, and listens to her— he honestly despises this fact.. Not because of their relationship, ( or lack thereof ), but more so the foolishness he constantly pulled himself into. Maybe Rustlepaw had more sense than he did. "I'm not stopping you," Stonestar tells Rustlepaw with a flick of his ears as he shifts his weight to pounce down from the rock and toward his clanmates. "There's a reason I asked for all interested in attending to come with, Rustlepaw." He continues, before drifting his gaze to Raccoonspring. He hesitates, but offers a smile and a grateful dip of his head before letting his paws begin to guide him toward the entrance of Soaringclan's camp, giving a glance over his shoulder to count the attending cats. Himself, Crowstrike, Ebonystep, Raccoonspring, Rustlepaw, Branchpaw... Meadowpaw... He's grateful that most of the Novices will have their mentors with them, although he isn't very happy with the number of adults to children. Beggars can't be choosers, he supposes. "Alright.. If anyone else would like to attend, or if you're in need of preparation, do so now— we'll be leaving soon." He tries his best to relax his shoulders and offer a relaxed smile that doesn't match the heavy weight of anxiety in his belly as he stops at the entrance, sitting and waiting for his clanmates to react to his words.

Dusklily The grayish she-cat started from sleep at the sound of Stonestar's voice crashing through a pleasant dream that quickly slipped from her memory as she took in her shadowy surroundings. Blinking and yawning, the advisor shifted in her nest up on a ledge of the cave. It was the middle of the night -- what was Stonestar talking so loudly for? Dusklily had spent the day hunting, and she wasn't particularly interested in getting up to do any work...but a lot of the novices had sprung from their nests at the sound of their leader's voice. Dusklily frowned as she watched the group assemble, but didn't move until Stonestar gave one last call for patrol members. Well, if she did this, it'd be an excuse to sleep later tomorrow... The pale calico got delicately to her feet and shook bits of bedding from her pelt as she climbed down from her nest. "I'll come with, Stonestar," she mewed as she approached the cluster of cats. She paused to lick a forepaw and draw it over her face a few times, adding cheekily, "Although I'm not sure what the rush is. If anything, the ice will melt by morning."

Brookshine | Caretaker His brother’s voice rang through the camp, calling for all those able to help with the Soaringclan tunnel system. Brookshine had never really explored them that much, always finding that his work kept him pretty much confined to camp (which he didn’t mind, as it meant he was closer to the cats that needed him). His ears perked as he listened to the words Stonestar had to say, and he couldn’t help but worry a little— Not because of the mentioned issue at paw, but because of how his brother seemed to be in that moment. He looked so stressed. The two of them hadn’t really had a true conversation since Stonestar had been chosen as leader, and while Brookshine still cared deeply for him, there was a very thick bramble wall between them now. Even so, the tom wanted to offer his assistance, even if said assistance wasn’t… Great. Brookshine was aware of his limits. Then Rustlepaw was causing a scene, basically calling out Stonestar right in front of everyone …Well, that was incredibly awkward. He didn’t really have any other word for it— That had been somewhat difficult to watch. It wasn’t like Rustlepaw didn’t deserve to do something like that; her own father could hardly even look at her most of the time. Dealing with that must be incredibly exhausting. Despite the awkwardness of the situation, Brookshine found himself even inwardly supporting the molly. Stonestar had cut off all his family, old or new. The tom knew how the novice felt, though it was likely even worse being rejected at such a young age. Though Rustlepaw didn’t seem to be bothered by it, at least on the surface. There was true strength in that. Brookshine didn’t even really have enough time to even think about what danger his own novice might get into before he was metaphorically throwing himself forward as part of the patrol. Did he really have the skills needed for this particular venture? Not really, but Brookshine knew his clanmates and he didn’t doubt for one second that they would need some support along the way, physical or emotional. Flicking the end of his tail, he walked forward and called out, “I’ll help, too. Y’need someone to keep you lot in line, don’tcha?”

With the cats chosen for the patrol assembled, the group is off with Ebonystep in the lead of the group and Stonestar trailing behind the others, taking up the rear end of the grouping. The air is brisk and cold, a wind pressing hard against the pelts of the patrol of Soaringclan— it’s very clear that Leafbare is close approaching, told by the frosty nip that lingers in the air. There’s a comfortable silence that settles between the patrol, and no cats accompanying the patrol seem to mind this. Some may even take a moment to admire the glittering stars and moon, their ancestors shining down upon their small forms as they walk the familiar paths of their home. Reaching Wolfbane Cave provides a shift in the air, however. The silence that has settled within the patrol has become heavy, weighing down on the pelts of the cats as they peer into the entrance of the cave. A cold breeze comes through the air, drifting and pressing hard against the pelts of the patrolling felines. Although uneasy and feeling a little unsteady as they step into the cave, the patrolling cats give a look around their surroundings. The first thing that everyone notices is the shift in temperature. It’s far colder in this cave than it is outside, which is saying something considering the harsh chill. Dull, blue colored mushrooms and moss light up their surroundings— but as they come deeper into the entrance of the cave… These begin to fade and it becomes notably darker. Ebonystep pauses in their footsteps when they feel the ground become slick underneath them, indicating the formation of ice within the cave…? Strange. Drip. Meadowpaw blinks as they look up after something wet hits their nose, causing their curiosity to pique. Meadowpaw is greeted to the stalactites hanging overhead, some dripping with water, but remain unmoving. Each cat feels their pelt prickle from the cold and the heavy shift in the air, but don’t dare turn back. Well, there’s only one way forward.

Ebonystep BOT 15/11/2022 00:55
Staring at the ground for a moment, Ebonystep studies the ice and it's path. He pads forwards, keeping his paws steady to avoid slippage. The cold, heavy air seems to have no effect on the tom, nor does the echo of water droplets hitting the ground. If anything, he seems more calm in this unerving atmosphere than back at camp. He continues to walk down the tunnels, looking back to make sure the patrol is following. He wished someone else would lead, but being ahead seems fine. It's quiet and so far no one has spoken to him. No one has spoken at all. Whether it's fear, nerves, or comfort, the group seems fine with the silence, and he would like it to stay that way. Though the silence is apparent, the cave bustles with its normal activity. The wind passes through the entrance and brushes against the walls. The whoosh that comes with is broken up by spikes of water. Though with all of this noise, plants live unaffected. Ebonystep couldn't help but smile as he admires this cave like he has with others many times before...

Raccoonspring BOT 15/11/2022 01:09
He quietly made sure to keep an eye on Rustlepaw- not that he didn't trust her, but because he wanted to ensure that she was safe. He'd happily keep her company if she sought out her super duper cool uncle's attention, but for now, he couldn't resist hovering around his brothers. HIS BROTHERS! Ah- for once, they were all out together! Of course, the situation was slightly grim, but Raccoonspring seemed to walk with pep in his step. Sure, he missed out on his nap and he'd kinda sorta volunteered for work, but he was with his brothers. And for once, Stonestar didn't seem all too mopey. He didn't exactly seem thrilled (not nearly as much as Raccoonspring, anyways), but at least his face wasn't permanently frozen in a frown. Ah, his mother would be proud. "Like old times, eh, brothers?" The gray tabby slowed his pace to walk with Brookshine and Stonestar in the rear, his grin from ear to ear. His fur was still sloppy, but at least he was pulling his weight around. "We gotta get you outside more often, Stonestar. I think you could use some more sunshine." He lightly teased his littermate while walking at a slow (albeit upbeat) pace. He briefly admired the peculiar flora around the cave, his pastel eyes darting from the moss and fungus, and then back toward his two littermates. "...Do you think you'd glow if you ate it?" It was an interesting thought. Perhaps having a glowing coat would make the duty of excavators a little easier... but would the glow remain upon ingestion? Would it apply to the cat who ate it, or just their teeth or paws that touched it? ...Not that he was trying to egg Brookshine into eating it, or anything.

Crowstrike BOT 15/11/2022 01:14
Walking into the cave the wind hits him like running into a rock. Cold and hard. Crowstrike has never been a fan of the cold, and tonight isn’t the night it starts. Crow preferred to stay near the middle closer to Stonestar in the back, just to keep an eye on everyone. He didn’t try to hide his yawning but the cold breeze had his adrenaline run a bit. That didn’t make him comfortable, though. It was quiet, but didn’t feel like the time for talking at the same time. Just listen. Raccoonspring didn’t seem to share the same views, but Crowstrike thought their comment was quite amusing. The ice on the ground caught him by surprise and got a few drops of cold water on the head. He already wished he was back in the den sleeping. Too late to leave now! He pushed out a claw to see how strong the ice was. How long had it been there? He tried to wipe the water off his head as well but just ended up messing up his fur. Lionfall can fix it when everyone gets home. He gave a quick glance around, counting heads (with a small smile every time he landed on one of his kits), and checked the surrounding areas of ice. He gave a small ”Don’t slip!” as he did so.

Meadowpaw BOT 15/11/2022 21:32
Meadowpaw was near the front of the group. This way, she can show her mentor that she's willing to be the first to take initiative, and Crowstrike can keep an eye on her. Meadowpaw likes to do whatever she can to try to ease her parents' worry. She also wants to try to impress Stonestar. She still can't believe she got the leader as her mentor. As much as she's grateful, she's also constantly stressed about not disappointing anyone. Stupid Rustlepaw told her about how Stonestar might abandon her. She didn't give Rustlepaw the satisfaction of a reaction, but she has been silently worrying since then. If Stonestar abandons her, what does that say about her? Others will think she's a terrible apprentice; someone who's so unteachable that the very leader can't be bothered with her. The very thought causes Meadowpaw to tear up, but she's quick to shake her head. Fortunately, the water from the stalactites helps hides her tears. She can't let her thoughts overwhelm her right now. She's on a patrol. She observes her surroundings, looking for potential hiding spots since she plans on being a stalker. However, Meadowpaw was in a disadvantage cause it's all ice in an open area.

Rustlepaw rolled her eyes at Raccoonspring - though the hesitancy she felt was reminiscent of fear rather than spite. Regardless the victory of an adventure made all of the mottled novice’s struggles worthwhile. With that, Rustlepaw veered towards the exit and took off with a tart canter. Her feet darted through and navigated the elevated terrain with practiced confidence - the rocks moved for her, it would seem. Soon enough the ground would carve into a concave form, and after that it would narrow. Rustlepaw’s heart hammered in her chest, and she blocked out the insistent chatter of her uncles as she leaned forward. Excited. Nervous, curious. She had always wanted to be an excavator like Silentstorm was, though her mentorship choices kept on getting in the way of that. This was a good opportunity to make that dream come true, though! Stonestar couldn’t hold her back if she absolutely dominated the floor, so to speak. Even so Rustlepaw wasn’t stupid, so she waited before diving in. Parting her maw to taste the air and unsheathing her claws to dig into the ice as she smoothed her way forward. …what were they looking for, again? Ice? Easy enough. There was ice everywhere - at least that’s what it felt like. The tunnel was cold and dark, the floor had this beautiful sheen that was one step away from freezing her paw pads clean off. Clouds of breath followed Rustlepaw’s exhales, and she made a point to breathe puffs of constant, confident air as she dove further down.

Dusklily Although she hadn't been very eager to get out of bed, Dusklily did take a moment to appreciate the night sky. When the pale calico looked up, stars blinked back at her and she thought of her mother, bounding across the clouds and stars and the dark gaps in between. It brought her a sense of warmth despite the cold air whipping around them as they walked. But when they reached Wolfbane, a shiver crawled down Dusklily's spine. She wasn't afraid of caves, but she definitely preferred the freedom of chasing prey out in the open air to crawling around in the dark. The she-cat watched her breath cloud around her muzzle as they travelled further into the cave, the eerie mushroom glow casting unusual shadows around her, until the shadows grew and the mushrooms disappeared. She noticed the drop of water hit Meadowpaw's nose just before a couple of drops landed on her own ears; Dusklily then made the mistake of looking upward and getting water dripped into one of her eyes. "Oh, mouse-dung," she yelped, pausing to wipe at her eye with a forepaw. Yeah, this really wasn't territory she was familiar with. "So, what are we doing exactly?" she asked to no one specific, although her gaze trailed toward Stonestar. "Breathing on all the ice until it melts, perhaps?" Dusklily blinked at the ceiling again, although she was careful to avoid standing directly under any stalactites this time. It seemed silly to clear away the ice if water was going to keep dripping and freezing on the ground. And was there anything worth coming down here for? "Maybe we should just tell the Clan to avoid this area for now." (edited)

Excitement was flowing through Branchpaw’s veins as the patrol made their way to Wolfbane Cave. Not even the cold nipping at their nose or paw pads could ruin his utter joy of doing something, anything cave related. As such, he made sure he was at the front of the patrol, almost glued to Ebonystep’s side. He probably should be sticking around Crowstrike or, most importantly, his mentor, but this was excavator business. And Ebonystep was an excavator, while Brookshine was not. Still, he made sure to look back at his mentor every once and awhile, sending a giant, toothy smile at him and his family. When they finally got to the cave, he let out a silent “woah.” His eyes scanned over the frozen cave, lighting up as he saw the glowing mushrooms. His excitement didn’t seem to carry with all of the party though, and he stomped a paw down as he spoke to Dusklily. “We’re here to explore! See if it’s safe for cats to walk around in. We can’t just look at ice and go ‘yep dangerous.’ Right, Ebonystep?”

Stonestar
t: @January | Dusklily
The chill in the air makes his pelt prickle with discomfort, and between his clanmates discussions and actions amongst one another thus far… He wasn’t feeling as confident as he would like to be. Dusklily’s questioning doesn’t instill any excitement in the tom-cat, either, but there’s a reason that he had chosen cats older than himself to take the positions of his Advisors— he wanted the opinions and wisdom of those with far more experience than himself, to avoid repeating old mistakes. He glances toward the she-cat near him with a flick of his ears, gesturing her closer as he replies in a tone more subtle than usual. ”To be fully honest with you, Dusklily, I’ve heard some strange rumors about this area.” The tom-cat begins cautiously, flicking his tail tip. ”I know I should have consulted you and Crowstrike prior, but I felt it safer to bring a patrol with us to investigate the area. From my understanding, whatever is going on only seems to be occurring within the night.” The tom-cat continues, glancing forward with unease before scrunching up his nose at the scent that he’s just taken notice of. The air is still and damp as they progress through the unfamiliar territory— he had never been much a fan of caves within Soaringclan. Clearing his throat as he’s positive that his Advisor won’t be pleased with his revelation, the grey tom presses on. ”I’m sure you’re right, that we should avoid this area… But I don’t know, something just feels like it needs investigation. Especially after Fennelsong’s…” He pauses, tilting his ears downward with a furrow of his eyebrows.

Brookshine
@20mia08 [Pebble & Raccoon] @Rusty He raised one eyebrow at the challenge from his brother— Was Raccoonspring trying to get him to eat the weird glowing mushrooms? Well… Brookshine was a cat that never backed down from a challenge. It only took him a moment before he began shovelling different types of strange funky plants into his mouth, completely ignorant to the goings on of everyone else around him, and particularly of important conversations including what they should be doing to make the area safe. It wasn’t until the voice of his novice, Branchpaw, reached his ears did he immediately spit out the fungi, straightening up and brushing back his fur. Clearing his throat, he peered between the younger tom and Ebonystep, pushing aside the tinge of jealousy that grew in his belly at the sight of them. The caretaker knew that if Branchpaw had been able to choose, he would’ve much preferred the excavator over him— Who wouldn’t? It made sense to be trained by an expert in the rank, rather than some caretaker. So why did it dampen his spirits? Brookshine agreed that the next best step would be to concentrate on trying to figure out the issue at paw. Where was the ice coming from? Was there a water source near by or was it produced by the cold, damp air alone? He cautiously sniffed, trying to be helpful. Brookshine could find nothing of note… Though that wasn’t really saying much, because he didn’t have much experience with these sort of things. Awkwardly (and mostly because he felt out of his depth), he turned to Dusklily and his brother, Stonestar, eyes quizzical. “So, uhh… Should we get right into it, then? No point just standing around.”

As the group presses onward through Wolfbane Cave, the air steadily becomes more stagnant and stale— moisture clings to the pelts of each cat, and for those unfortunate enough to lack a thick pelt, they find themselves shivering as dew clings to their fur. Nevertheless, Stonestar shows his determination to lead his clanmates through the cave with the guidance of their Excavator guide, Ebonystep. The tom-cat in question moves through the cave with ease, familiar with his surroundings in a way that brought an eerie peace to him, unlike some of the others currently accompanying him. The Soaringclan patrol chooses to press onward in spite of the dripping water and thick ice that seems to spread and thicken against the ground, making walking troubling. Some cats may have to lean against others for support in order to avoid losing traction as they walk the ground. Drip… Drip… Drip… The sound of the droplets falling from stalactites and against the icy ground and pelts of the cats echoes against the cave walls— but that seems to be about it in terms of abnormalities in the cave. Perhaps Dusklily was right, the patrol should have waited for the sun to rise before approaching Wolfbane’s Cave and beginning their investigation. Maybe Stonestar had been foolish to wake others or interrupt them from their attempts at sleep, maybe… Brookshine was the first to notice that something was truly awry in the cave. The sound of a pebble dropping had caught the brown tom-cat’s attention, causing him to turn his head and perk his ears at the sound of the rock ricocheting against the ground. This caused the tom-cat to pause his steps before shrugging his shoulders, dismissing the small movement as nothing… Still, feeling better safe than sorry, he comes closer toward the patrol. Ebonystep, however, took notice of the next pebble that came falling in front of him— followed by another… And another. The tabby stops in his tracks, his tail prickling with alarm before his ears flatten down as he turns his head toward the rest of the cats with him. The typically introverted tom-cat swallows the lump of anxiety forming in his throat— and that’s when every cat took notice of the rumble beginning to overcome their surroundings, dampening the sound of the droplets dripping with the tremor of stones beginning to fall off of the cave ceiling. The tabby tom-cat drew in a deep breath before crying out to his clanmates, ”Cave in!” But it was too late. The rocks came tumbling down, varying in size— at first the rocks were small pebbles and shards coming down, allowing the Soaringclan patrol a chance to escape— but this effort quickly became fruitless as they doubled back and came rushing for the entrance as larger rocks began to collapse and block the way, along with dust clouding their vision. Despite Ebonystep’s warning for the patrol to escape upon noticing the falling debris within their surroundings, it was far too late. The rocks and debris within the cave came tumbling down upon the cats and their only escape path at an alarming rate. The sound of the rocks crashing down on the patrol and ground underneath them became a deafening roar that replaced the eerie silence that had once filled the air, followed by pained cries and yowls from various clanmates that became trapped underneath the rubble that came crashing down on them. For what felt like an eternity but only lasted a few mere seconds, the deafening rumble and cries bounced off of the falling rocks and cave walls before finally coming to a stop… The air quickly became thick with dust, and the silence that had once sat in the cave made an almost unwelcome return once more… Replies have been REOPENED! Please be sure to take a gander at event rolls to check the injury status of your cat, however!

Stonestar His heart pounds and head reels at the sudden shift in atmosphere and surroundings— one moment he had been quietly speaking with Dusklily about their ( somewhat ) mutual concerns, and then they had been buried underneath rubble. If there was anytime for the leader to beat himself up over his poor decision making, now was the damn time! The tom-cat groaned with pain as he pushed his way through the debris that he had been lodged under, an easy task considering how light and loose the rock and soil just happened to be. He tries his hardest to ignore the smell of blood, the dust clinging to his pelt, the searing pain that he's noticed emanating from a cut on his ear as he clumsily gets to his large paws, breath ragged and painful as he turns his head. The tom's heterochromatic gaze wanders helplessly over the rubble, before he finds himself scrambling toward the first sign of life that he can see amongst the rubble. He doesn't know what the hell he's doing, he's not an excavator— he was a Guardian, and now? Leader of his Clan. But hell, clearly he's hardly fit for the position of Leader. Dusklily was right, they should have waited. He should have been less insistent, less stubborn. Stonestar feels nausea overcoming his body as he begins to wildly dig at the rocks and dirt, his concern for his clanmates growing more and more present. But what's worse? His brothers. He wants to cry at the thought of losing either of them because he was foolish enough to bring his clanmates here. His thoughts even wander toward Rustlepaw, terror flooding his gut at the thought of the cocky apprentice that acted much too similar to him. She shared his blood, he couldn't not care, no matter how much he tried. Meadowpaw, his apprentice... She's another cat that comes to mind. Stonestar was her mentor, and although he wasn't fit to train her... That didn't mean he could recklessly endanger her, not like this. He had an obligation to her, more than any of his clanmates. Guilt swamps his head. He can barely swallow the lump filling his throat as he gives a yowl, to anyone that can hear him— "Try and dig your way out, or call to any of us! 'm going to try and dig anyone in the debris out!" His heart is thundering in his chest as his paws continue to move, claws clumsily digging into rocks and dirt. Stonestar needs to get his clanmates out of this, and quickly. (edited)

It was fine, At first. Rustlepaw made an effort to saunter through the tunnels effortlessly - as an older apprentice her movements were already that of a warrior. Agile as she could be at her age, and even more cocky. The dappled feline would give Stonestar a backwards glance every now and then, but only when she thought he wasn’t looking. Perhaps that had been her downfall. The rumble of the cave did not catch Rustlepaw off guard, but she was quick to pick it out when it happened. Giving a backwards glance towards the patrol just as a small pebble rolled onto the top of her head. bonk. Another rumble. The patrol stopped. The silence beat like a heart amidst the vein of of the cave — and then it all fell apart. ’Cave in!’ Rustlepaw did a double take, but she did not move. Only really registering the whole situation as a danger when her patrol began to flee. As much as Rustlepaw’s mind numbly begged her to stay and explore, survival instinct made an easy victory out of her. So Rustlepaw took off up the tunnel, a bout of panic rising to her throat and making her once graceful movements scrappy and ultimately too loose to grab a strong hold onto the icy rubble. Suddenly the danger became universally real - and Rustlepaw yelped as she felt the unbelievable pressure of anxiety weigh down onto her back. It was as if claws were pressed onto her spine - preventing her from so much as breathing. With an outward gasp Rustlepaw fell onto her face - quickly lagging behind as she struggled to gain a grip before… CRASH!! Pain. Rustlepaw knew it, and she hated it. Her pain tolerance had never been particularly high - and it always registered as a defeat of some kind. A loud shrill growl parted from Rustlepaw’s maw as her left leg was suddenly swarmed by a fire of agony. Then, for a moment, it all went dark.
09:05
— Not for long, though. The call of Stonestar made Rustlepaw’s eyes flutter and her muscles tense from their relaxed state. Once the dust settled enough to see Rustlepaw heaved herself onto her paws - or three of them. Though she wouldn’t know it, debris had crushed down onto her left hindleg… and despite the ever-present pain Rustlepaw only took a moment to swallow back her tears and grit her teeth before forcing all four paws onto the ground. ”Here!” Rustlepaw coughed towards Stonestar, pelt bushed and messy as she did a full circle. Not fully comprehending the severity of what had just happened to them.

Meadowpaw BOT 29/11/2022 09:23
Despite having heard Ebonystep’s warnings, Meadowpaw knew she couldn’t do much. She was one of the furthest from the exit, and she was just an apprentice; she doesn’t have the speed or reflexs to reach her family. Not caring for herself, Meadowpaw quickly turned around to look at Crowstrike and Branchpaw. All she can manage to do is to warn her family. ”Pa! Branchpaw! Run to the ex-“ She wasn’t even able to finish as she felt something smack the front of her head. She collapsed to the ground, already knocked out by the time her body gets buried in the cave in.

While investigating the ice Crowstrike was keeping note of everyone out of the corner of his eyes. It was already dark and he was nearing the back of the cave when he heard some one shout ”CAVE IN!” Crowstrike shot his head up and looked above him as the rocks above moved and slipped passed one another. He didn’t even register who yelled when the voice of his daughter rang in his ears. She was farther back in the cave than he was and was yelling for everyone to get out. In such a quick instance Crow knew she wouldn’t make it out in time so without thinking he started to run to her side yelling ”Meadowpaw!” Crowstrike thought maybe if he could stand over her he would take the hit for whatever fell but the rocks came down faster than he could run. All he could do with his paws outstretched was look at the horrified expression that crossed her face. The rocks came crashing down just before Crowstrike could reach her. He felt all sorts of pain as they fell but refused to close his eyes until a rock came right at his face and he shut them quickly. It seemed to have missed but he was still buried. He managed to break free from the rocks once silence fell and immediately tried to climb out but something stung his eyes. He tried to cry whatever it was out but it didn’t work. His sight was blurry, at least for what he could see, but immediately called out to everyone. After hearing some movement he called out to Meadowpaw again and started trying to dig his way to her.

Ebonystep BOT 29/11/2022 16:38
As a pebble fell beside him, Ebonystep immediately thought of a cave-in, but he was always cautious. It was only when a few more pebbles fell when he realized. He darted to the entrance, only calling out to the patrol when he was already behind them, "CAVE IN". Ebonystep ran across the slippery ground with relative ease, darting as fast as he could between falling rocks. He panted as he ran for his life before something hit him across the side of his head. For the first time in his life, Ebonystep thought of someone other than himself, thinking about the brown novice that he left behind. He felt bad leaving the novice, soon remembering his sister's voice from behind. Ebonystep hoped the two were alright as he imagined their father's panic. Try and-... any of us... debris... He heard a muffled voice. Everything was dark, and he felt as if he was floating. Dazed, he listened to the sound of rocks moving and cats calling out to one another. Ebonystep felt rocks move around his tail, and he suddenly felt the firey stings in his head. He shuffled his feet to begin to pull himself out of the rubble, but he knew he was stuck. He kept going as he started feeling dizzy, his vision dark and his hearing muffled. He pulled himself into a tiny opening in the rocks and turned about in his spot. He could see something but couldn't tell what. He pushed himself through and kept moving, eventually breaking up into a large area. He looked around, and paused, seeing a small silhouette in the distant cavern. He took a step forwards. Next thing he knew, Ebonystep was on the ground, his head hurting more and more. All he could do for the time being was curl up and hope someone came for him as a few rocks rolled on top of him. Overwhelmed with thoughts, he passed out while his breathing letting out a soft whimper as his last effort was to call out for help.

Meadowpaw BOT 29/11/2022 18:46
When Meadowpaw woke up, everything felt heavy and painful and all she could hear is ringing. She found the ringing annoying because she couldn't really hear anything else. She's certain that she should be hearing some kind of commotion nearby ... unless everyone got buried or died. Meadowpaw quickly dismissed this thought before it could upset her to tears. She has to somehow get out. Meadowpaw first tried wiggling out from under the rocks, but once she felt more pressure applying on her body, she stayed still. She's afraid that without help, she'll just end up having more rocks crashing down on her. All Meadowpaw could think to do is to yell out for help. ""Pa?! Branchpaw?!However, when Meadowpaw yelled out, she couldn't hear her own voice. Just the annoying ringing in her ear. She's certain she just yelled because she feels the vibration in her throat. Was she that injured? Beside the almost crushing weight on her bruising her body, and a head wound, she didn't think she was that hurt. However, if she can't hurt, she may be worse than she thought. Despite her attempts to stay calm, Meadowpaw starts to tear up and cry for her family. She doesn't want to be deaf. She's suppose to be a stalker, and becoming deaf would make that dream impossible. "P-pa! Help me! I can't hear! I can't hear you! Get me out! I want to go home!"

Raccoonspring BOT 29/11/2022 18:49
As a Guardian, he didn't exactly spend a lot of time in the tunnels. Being Raccoonspring...he didn't spend his time anywhere else besides his dreams, really. However, he was especially inexperienced and a particularly poor choice for patrolling the depths of the tunnels, but he did it out of love for his brother. He'd leap at any opportunity to spend some quality time with both Stonestar and Brookshine, really. Having Rustlepaw on the patrol...despite the evident tension between father-and-daughter, having Raccoonspring's niece tag along was really the icing on the cake. Little falling pebbles was totally normal, right? He'd brushed it off, skipping after his brothers with a particularly adoring gaze despite the looming danger he was entirely oblivious to. It was dark, stuffy, and he was really missing his nighttime nap, but...well, seeing Brookshine furtively scarf down a handful of mushrooms really made his evening. But then cave Ebonystep's call: "Cave in!" Raccoonspring froze, looking from his brothers to his niece in the distance. Stonestar and Brookshine were big and tough, just like uncle Raccoonspring. But Rustlepaw...she was still an adolescent. "Rustlepaw!" The gray tabby instincitvely called after her, briefly taking off in hopes to protecting her from the showering rocks. But Raccoonspring was by no means a speed demon. Damn it all- she was just out of his reach when the rocks came cascading down. He outstretched a paw, as if hoping he could scoop the apprentice underneath his mass of messy fur to protect her from the rocks, but he was way too far away. Raccoonspring had rolled awkwardly when he was knocked off-balance by the intial boulder, slamming his face hard into an angular rock. The pain was like wildfire as it spread across his face, and before long, he felt himself being buried beneath a layer of rock.
18:49
His brothers, Rustlepaw...panic coursed through his veins. Were they alright? Had they made it? He had to find them, he had to make sure...but the weight of the stony prison pressed against the warrior's form, and he wheezed weakly. "...Brothers-" Keep them safe, keep them supported...that was all his mother had asked of him. It was his one great ambition, and it seemed as though he'd already failed. The last promise he'd made to Mistyfern...just outside of his grasp. The weight of the rocks, it was almost comforting. Maybe he was just desperate- his face, it hurt so much...he couldn't see a thing beneath the layer of debris and rock. Trying to speak sent a sharp pain down the side of his face. "Please...be ok." Sleep...he wanted to sleep so bad, and the force of the rocks only furthered that desire.

January | Dusklily 29/11/2022 21:06
Dusklily The advisor gave a twitch of her ears at Branchpaw's comment -- on the contrary, she definitely thought they could look at the ice and go 'yep dangerous' and leave. But maybe it was just her Trapper instincts that made her feel that way; when she hunted, she was much more comfortable luring prey out of places like this than pursuing them inside. Still, it was true they had Ebonystep with them, which did make Dusklily feel a bit better. She padded closer to Stonestar when he beckoned her, listening pensively to his words as she walked beside him. Her brow furrowed slightly, but she waited for him to stop speaking before offering her own thoughts. "I suppose an investigation isn't a bad idea, but I don't think you needed to bring so many cats. Or such unexperienced ones." Dusklily glanced over the group -- a few novices, and only one Excavator. "But it's nice to see your Clan is so eager to help." Dusklily was quiet then, trying to fight off her growing sense of anxiety and focus on 'investigating,' or whatever it was Stonestar wanted them to be doing. But everything just seemed to get colder and wetter, and a few times the calico had to catch herself to avoid slipping on the ice. It didn't seem unreasonable that cats could go missing just by slipping and knocking themselves out, to later be discovered by a predator rather than a patrol. Dusklily shivered and shook out her now-damp pelt. Avoiding these spots completely until the weather warmed really didn't seem like a bad idea to her.
21:06
Then Dusklily suddenly paused, her pelt spiking as she simultaneously realized that the ground was rumbling and heard Ebonystep's yowl of "Cave in!" Dusklily tried to run, but she couldn't get a grip on the floor and within seconds her vision was obscured by dust, and she couldn't hear over the roars and thuds of rocks hitting the ground. All she could do was climb to avoid being buried. And then as quickly as it had started, it was over. Dusklily pulled herself onto another boulder to try and see where her Clanmates were, her heart pounding in her chest. Her own blood dribbled from a gash on her haunches, but adrenaline kept her from noticing it. The voices she heard provided comfort and panic at the same time -- some were okay, some were not, some voices she hadn't heard at all. Rapidly Dusklily tried to remember how many cats had come with them, and compare that to the number of cats she could see -- but she could barely see -- were all the novices alright? -- what if -- The faintest whimper caught Dusklily's attention and she whipped her head around, eyes wide as she tried to see who had made the noise. It took her a second, but there -- "Ebonystep!" The name burst from Dusklily's mouth without her even thinking, and she scrambled across the rocks to where she could see the tom, apparently unconscious now and still trapped. "Someone help me! Help me get Ebonystep!" The advisor dug frantically at the rocks on top of him, swearing as the stone tore at her claws and cut into her pawpads. Oh, StarClan, this can't be happening...
Avatar
Branchpaw's fur stood out from Ebonystep's yell. Cave in. Dear StarClan, what was he supposed to do? The thought swirled around his mind as the rocks began to fall down, immobilizing him until a small, sharp rock slashed his hip. Letting out a surprised cry, he stumbled away from it blindly, missing the most of the stones as he ran. Soon, it was silent. Then, he heard Stonestar yowl out an order for the patrol to dig themselves out, or call for help. His heart nearly stopped. Dig themselves out? Meadowpaw? Papa? The thought of his family made him realize he left them. A wail of terror left his maw, and he raced over to the pile of rocks, or as well as he could with his new limp. While he saw his father, he didn't see his sibling. "Meadow!" he cried. His claws scraped against the rocks as he began to sob. "Please be okay! Please, please!" His ears perked at the sound of her voice below the rocks, and his movements sped up. "Papa! She's here! She's here! Don't worry, Meadow! We're here!"

Brookshine
One moment he’d been messing around, both trying to make one of his brothers laugh and another being insecure about his novice. There hadn’t been any indication that something was about to go terribly, horribly wrong. The smile had dropped off his muzzle so fast as the first few crumbling pebbles tumbled past his nose. After that, everything had become a swirl of chaos and Brookshine wasn’t sure he’d be able to decipher ear-tip from tail-tip. His ears rang with the echo of Ebonystep’s warning, and he tried his best to throw the weight of his body away from the falling debris. He wasn’t successful. The distinct sound of his tail getting crushed under the mass of falling rocks was the first indication of his failure, followed by a flash of blinding pain that vibrated along his spine. He cried out, claws unsheathed as he gripped desperately at the rock face below him, trying to wrench his tail free— His injury was slowly becoming numb, which he supposed was better than the initial pain. Brookshine was attempting to push down the mounting panic rising in his throat as he realised that he wouldn’t be able to shift the rock alone. Fortunately for him, he was with his clanmates— But unfortunately for him, he had no clue where they were. The dust was still settling and his eyes were itchy with attempting to clear his vision of it. “Stonestar? Raccoonspring?” He coughed, ears pinned against his head as the dread squirmed in his belly. After a pause, he added a little more uncertainly, “…Branchpaw?”

Stonestar mentions: @nym ✦ fbt @January | Dusklily @Alex | Egg & Rust , open for anyone 2 reply ofc!
The thundering of his heart in his chest does not stop, in fact, it only grows worse as he comes to realize who is and isn't trapped. Dusklily was right, that they shouldn't have done this— they should have waited. He should have listened. But then Rustlepaw is speaking to him, and there's the troubling fact that his apprentice and both of his brothers are trapped underneath the rubble. He moves without thinking to Rustlepaw's side, gaze hovering over her with a concern he had never expressed outwardly toward the young she-cat before. She looked frenzied and was pretty clearly injured, that much he could make out in his dark surroundings— but for the most part Rustlepaw was okay, fortunately. "I'm glad you're okay," The words leave him suddenly and thoughtlessly, but that doesn't remove their genuinity. Stonestar doesn't even realize what he's said as he turns his focus onto the rubble and debris. If Rustlepaw surfaced from here, it likely meant at least one of his brothers were in this general location. So he digs and presses hard against the rocks, teeth grit and jaw clenched. A horrible terror threatens to make his heart climb out of his throat at the idea of one of his brothers being... Being worse off than Rustlepaw. Being gone. He can't accept that, so he tries to focus all of this terrible energy and fear into his physical strength. Stonestar can't let himself panic, not now, not when he has to get his clanmates and siblings out of this mess. A sense of relief washes over his person like a splash of river water when he catches sight of Brookshine's familiar pelt, quick to grab him by the scruff and drag him away from the rubble. Stonestar could cry at the sight of his horribly silly brother, who usually gets underneath his pelt in the worst of ways. He's overjoyed, but this sense of relief doesn't last for long. He doesn't let it, because Dusklily's voice is a reminder that someone is still trapped underneath the rubble. He drags Brookshine far enough from the debris that they won't be an issue for him again, but quickly turns his sights back toward his advisor and the trapped Ebonystep. The grey-furred leader practically charges forward, giving a sharp call to the older she-cat. " 'm coming to help, Dusklily!"

Crowstrike BOT 07/12/2022 15:01
”Meadowpaw!!!” Crowstrike yelled. He could feel his own blood trickle around his eyes and his body started to ache but it didn’t matter, nothing else did but digging out his daughter. He felt his claws scrape against rocks as he tried to get deeper and deeper rather than spreading the rocks out. He heard her, he knew where she was, he just couldn’t see her. A sudden, sharp scrape on his foreleg broke him from his focus. It didn’t feel like a huge or necessarily deep injury, it must have been from the necklace he wears. Maybe the bone or for StarClan’s sake his mate-ship crystal broke? Whatever it was, he didn’t even think twice about it. Before returning to his dig he heard Branchpaw yell and a fuzzy blob running closer. ”Branchpaw! Help! I can’t see and you sister is underneath the rocks over here!” Crowstrike continued his dig, now feeling the rocks move around twice as fast, and suddenly felt something softer. Tears filled his eyes once more as he knew what he hit, even without seeing it.

Rustlepaw* Rustlepaw flattened her ears, trying to ignore the palpitations of her heart as Stonestar approached her. Even in the dark, the Soaringclan leader’s face was soft — a distant glaze passing through his eyes. A sentiment of confusion that Rustlepaw (unfortunately) found herself sharing. The dappled novice squared her shoulders and set her jaw, looking as determined as she could before being blind sighted by the off handed remark that Stonestar was about to make. ’I’m glad you’re okay.’ Rustlepaw’s jaw fell agape as Stonestar moved past. For a few beats Rustlepaw stood facing a dark wall, mind racing and a noticeable lodge collecting into her throat. Emotions were never Rustlepaw’s strong suit, though. Were these ones good? Bad? Rustlepaw had no clue. So for now they had to take the back burner. Without consultation, Rustlepaw spun on her heels and walked the opposite way — or lightly trotted. Gritting her teeth and pausing at the fight to free Meadowpaw before brushing past. The first cat that was on her mind was her uncle, Raccoonspring. He wasn’t around, which was weird because he was usually like… everywhere.
15:08
”Raccoonspring?” Rustlepaw called, no response. ”Raccoonspring?” Nothing. ”RacooOO-“ WHAM! Went Rustlepaw as she stumbled on some loose debris - smacking her head against some rocks on her way down. Though it wasn’t long before Rustlepaw got to her paws and spun to face the pile of rocks — instinctively reaching her small paws into one of the gaps until the brush of fur hit her claws. Almost immediately Rustlepaw knew who it was, and silently began to push aside stones. …or, as silently as Rustlepaw could be. ”Hey asshole! Nap time’s over!” Rustlepaw barked at Raccoonspring’s form as she worked to clear him off, ”Get up! Get up!” It came from a place of worry mostly. As soon as Raccoonspring was cleared she hauled him as best as she could, which wasn’t much, and nosed his face aggressively before wilting. Unable to look at her uncle’s state (she knew it was bad, even in the dark.) Rustlepaw turned and began to limp hurriedly towards where there was some commotion surrounding what she assumed to be another buried cat. Go figure. ”Move! Beep beep! Outta my way!” Rustlepaw demanded as she pushed her way between Dusklily and Stonestar, ”Lemme handle this.”

Meadowpaw BOT 07/12/2022 15:46
Too afraid to attempt to get herself out, Meadowpaw just screamed. It terrified her how despite feeling the vibration in her throat, she couldn’t hear anything but ringing. She was certain she was screaming loudly too because her throat started to hurt as she strained her vocal cords. She wasn’t even thinking of the possibility to run out of air. She’s just hoping that she’s deaf and someone was coming to get her. Certainly not everyone is buried alive or that her family would leave her behind, right? Certainly she was yelling loud enough for someone to know she’s alive, right? When she felt the rocks around her move, she was certain that the rocks around her was finally going to crush her. She didn’t want to die with rocks in her mouth, so she stopped screaming and braced herself for the pain. However, she was surprised to see her father and brother’s face. They were alive. They weren’t ghosts that have come to collect her because they were dirty and wounded like her. She lets out a sob of relief, but her blood went cold as she watches Crowstrike’s and Branchpaw’s mouths move. She can see they’re talking, but no sound is coming out. All she can hear is ringing. Despite being alive, she has definitely lost her hearing. She’s as good as dead because her dreams of becoming a stalker is gone. She stares at her family before speaking in a soft voice. ”I … can’t hear you. I can’t hear … anything.”

“I’m helping, Papa! I’m helping!” the novice cried out to his father, still attempting to claw the rocks off of his sister. To his relief, the rocks began to move with his and Crowstrike’s actions and- The screaming. His ears went back when he heard his sister scream out in fear. There was something off about her yelling, but Branchpaw was more focused on saving her. Against his tears, he soon saw his sister’s pelt, and he let out a relieved sob. “Meadow!” With the stones out of the way, he nuzzled his face into her neck. He didn’t care if his tears made her fur wet, or if there was any blood soaking into his. All he cared was that his sister was alright. Well, as alright as she could be. His heart ached to hear the sadness in her voice as she told them that she couldn’t hear anything. He sniffled, looking up at Crowstrike. “Spidershadow will help her, right? A-and you too? You have a lot of blood on your face, a-are you okay?”

Ebonystep BOT 07/12/2022 16:44
As his eyes open to the sound of a muffled wail, the rocks shift around Ebonystep's body. His headache worsened since the last time he was awake, and he kept an eye closed in the pain. Blood still flooded his nose as he lay buried in the rocks, trying to listen to his surroundings. His hearing seemed to have improved in the presence of his head injury, for whatever that's worth. He lay still even as he felt the rocks around him shift, hearing the voices of his superiors. He was a little surprised when Rustlepaw pulled him out from among the rubble with Stonestar and Dusklily standing beside them. Once freed, Ebonystep just took his bearings as he looked around. The cave did indeed collapse, however the stiff reunion of Crowstrike and his kits followed by Brookshine and the, uh... snoring body of his brother gave a slight reassurance to the little spotted tom-cat. He was glad that Branchpaw was unharmed despite being ditched. Still, he felt guilty. "I, um. Thank you..." Ebonystep said to the young novice how pulled him out, trying his best to gather his words. Once steady, he decended down the slight ramp of the rocks, having an obvious issue walking down if anyone cared to watch. It wasn't long before he fell to the ground, his body seeming to shake as he righted himself into a sit on the ground. He brought his paw up to rub the side of his head and paused with a tiny gasp as he felt his ear, or lack of. He brought his paw down and noticed the blood scented patch of dark on his white paws. Ebonystep closed his eyes as he continued cleaning his injured head despite the increasingly painful stinging and bludgeoning sensations.

Dusklily @kait [ s & s ] @Alex | Egg & Rust @PlatinumPlayz The calico she-cat's frustration only grew as she pushed and pulled at the rocks around Ebonystep, but didn't seem to make any progress in freeing him. Panicked voices echoed off of the walls of the cave, and hearing Meadowpaw's screams felt like claws digging into Dusklily's chest. This has to be a nightmare, she thought, although she knew that this was all painfully real. If only all these cats were still curled up sleeping in their nests. Dusklily was about to yell out again when she finally heard Stonestar call that he would help. She paused, looking helplessly down at forepaws, now bloodied from her attempts to dig Ebonystep out. She gave her leader a moment to try moving the rocks himself before she joined back in, but suddenly she could heard Rustlepaw's voice in her ears and feel the novice pushing at her flank. Dusklily backed up uncertainly, but a mixture of shock and delighted relief welled up in her as the younger cat successfully pulled her Clanmate free. "Thank you, Rustlepaw," Dusklily mewed, dipping her head to the novice as a symbol of gratitude and respect. But a heavy sense of dread swallowed up her relief as she took in the extent of Ebonystep's injuries, his stumbling gait and the blood-soaked fur on his face. If he was in this state, how had their Clanmates faired? The advisor swung her green gaze towards Stonestar, but it took her a moment to speak. "Is everyone accounted for?" She wanted to snap at him -- look what had happened to the group, look at all the work he had created for Spidershadow in exchange for absolutely no progress toward a solution to the alleged problem with the caves. But she swallowed her anger for the meantime, her voice coming out as a weak croak. Dusklily could feel herself trembling slightly, the adrenaline draining from her system at the lack of an immediate threat. They would have to get everyone home...

Rustlepaw puffed up her chest as she sauntered to the pile of stones that Dusklily and Stonestar were scrabbling at. Though not as experienced, Rustlepaw had wanted to become an excavator for a while, and thusly had stubbornly tailored herself to it. Silentstorm had also been a fountain of knowledge, so most of the already obscure techniques were littered through Rustlepaw’s mind. The dappled apprentice waved her tail and paced before leaning forward to inspect the well-stuck rocks. Eventually finding a gap in the stones to hook a paw into so she could begin to softly worm it free. The pile was low, so it wasn’t as if Ebony would be crushed. Probably. Hopefully? Not too sure about that last bit because Ebonystep was a renoun asshole according to the reliable sources Rustlepaw had accumulated, but he was an excavator! So if Rustlepaw wanted to switch majors before Crowstrike got all up on her turf this was the fastest way to do it. With grips and drags of her dextrous paws the rock came loose, and it only took a few moments longer for the pile to become malleable. Hah. ”Got him!” Rustlepaw crowed, pointedly not listening to the screaming as she gripped Ebony and dragged him out as far as she could. The thanks that Rustlepaw received afterwards only seemed to bolster her ego — if not make her almost bashful. She gave Dusklily a toothy grin before pointedly looking at Stonestar. A few beats passed before Rustlepaw gave up. Snorting and rolling her eyes before turning around to survey the tunnel. (edited)

Before saying anything Crowstrike immediately collapsed into his daughter’s fur. He heard Meadowpaw’s and Branchpaw’s cries but it only went in one ear and out the other. How could he let this happen? Why didn’t he make it to her on time? How bad is she hurt? He promised Lionfall he’d watch over them and he failed. After a few moments he reached a paw out to drag Branchpaw into the pile. Their furs against his face was comforting, something he did all the time when they were kits. ”Yeah! Spidershadow will make us all better! I’m alright, just a little difficulty making you out from the rocks!” Towards the end Crowstrike moved his paw to rub around Branchpaw’s face as if to feel where he was. It started as a joke but only then did Crowstrike really realize how bad his eyes were. Will it always be like this? He twitched an ear looking in the direction of where he heard voices. He recognized one to be Dusklily and thought it was best to regroup. ”Let’s regroup with the others. Can you lead? I’ll follow behind.” He said this to Branchpaw. After, he turned back to his daughter with another nudge and pointing his head to where he heard the voices. Meadowpaw couldn’t hear, but she could still follow close behind. Crowstrike made sure not to let his tail leave Meadowpaw’s side. In his head it was a guide for her, but it also connected them making sure Crowstrike knew where she was. He wasn’t going to risk losing her again.

Usually, Meadowpaw would reject any cuddles from her family to try to act prideful. However, she didn’t have the strength to pretend right now. She clings onto her father and brother. She can’t hear their voices, so she’s relying on the feeling of their fur to assure herself that they’re not gone. She’s afraid that if she lets go, she’ll lose them and she’ll have no way finding them. She’ll be stuck alone with the annoying ringing in her ears as her only company. Speaking of the ringing, she hates it, so she tries focusing on something else. She started rambling. She finds the vibration from her voice soothing, because it’s the only way she can assure herself that she’s making noise and that she’s not unnoticed. ”A-all I hear is ringing. I hate it. How am I going to be a stalker now? I can’t. I don’t know what to do anymore. I want to go home. I hate it here. Don’t leave me. I-I’ll still be useful. I’m not useless or a burden.” Along the ramble, she has forgotten that she’s talking aloud instead of thinking, so some of her deeper thoughts slipped out.

Raccoonspring BOT 08/12/2022 16:07
It was only natural that the lazy-natured tom succumbed to the sleep that so charmingly called his name. Napping was his mistress, and Raccoonspring was guilty of loving her dearly. What else was he to do when his face felt inflamed, and he was buried underneath a layer of rock and dust that he couldn't move on his own? All he could do was pray- pray that his brothers had made it, pray that Rustlepaw was ok. It wasn't long before the beaten gray tabby was softly snoring underneath the pressure of debris. He had found himself in greener pastures, in a fantasy where the sun was warm and shining, and the grass gently tickled his paws. The birds were singing, and the clouds were perfect for cloud watching. As the dreaming tom strolled around, he came across a familiar stone-gray coat that made his heart shatter. "Mother?" The warrior had called out with his voice brimming with shock and mournfulness. Guilt pierced his belly. Was he dying? She had motioned for him to come over, and Raccoonspring slowly shuffled in her direction with his head held low. "...Ma, I failed." He choked softly as he nestled into the sun-bathing molly's side. "I know you don't expect much out of me- hell, I don't expect much out of myself- I don't feel anything calling to me. But looking after my brothers was the one thing I *wanted to do."* His bleary blue eyes glimpsed up at the sky as Mistyfern pointed to the clouds with a paw. "...I couldn't even look after Rustlepaw. What kind of shitty uncle am I? I let my niece get flattened like a leaf."
16:07
This was why he didn't have ambitions. You couldn't feel the drag of failure if you had nothing to fail. He released a frustrated sigh. "I hope this all blows over when I wake up." No, he absolutely did not want to do any digging, but he...he didn't want to possibly see the body of his brothers if they hadn't made it, either. This response seemed to invoke a glare from his mother. "What? C'mon, you know I-" He tensed when he felt something aggressively digging into his side, and peered down to see a little rat. "Hey, what's the big idea?!" Raccoonspring turned to glimpse back at Mistyfern, but his mother had vanished. Before long, everything was gone and he was barely conscious within the sidelines of the tunnel. He thought he could barely make out the form of his niece aggressively limping off. Did...did she call him an asshole? His blue eyes desperately flickered back and forth for a moment. Everything was still so hard to process- he felt so tired, and his body felt so heavy. Where was Stonestar? Brookshine? With a muffled groan, he slipped back into a pain-induced slumber.

Ebonystep BOT 08/12/2022 16:45
As Branchpaw passed by with his father and sister in tow, Ebonystep looked up from his cleaning and began inspecting everyone's injuries. Many only seem to be scratched, however Brookshine had a break in his tail. Others had gashes or had impairments in their senses, like Meadowpaw's deafness. Looking about, Ebonystep noticed that he seems to have the worse off. Go figure. His headache wouldn't have been from the wound itself, it's only karma that his motion is poor, a concussion maybe? Who knows. Meadowpaw spoke her mind and only wanted to be seen, only for her existence to be recognized. She doesn't want to be left out, she wants to be safe. She wants to be loved in this scary time. Through their differences, Ebonystep had to look away from the young she-cat out of sympathy. He knows the feeling, he went through abandonment. It was scary. She is loved, she will be noticed. She has a father who is worried and will make sure she won't be left out, judging by the position of his tail. "They need to get out, Shrewstripe will help," the young tom muttered. "He knows, he helped." Ebonystep's motions were so very limited that moving across any surface, let alone fallen debris, proved to be a challenge. His legs pulled out from underneath, his body falling to the sides. Each step he took was met with the ground, his body slamming against the rocks that supported his weight. He shouldn't be moving, his coordination was almost gone, and that little cat covered in dirt was determined to help. He wanted the families to be reunited again safely, something he was never able to see...

Brookshine
@kait [ s & s ] @PlatinumPlayz @Rusty
Fortunately for him, his fear hadn’t lasted very long— As if he were the sun himself, Stonestar arrived and freed Brookshine from the rock without much hassle. The expression on his face wasn’t as bright as the sun, mind you, and likely would be a better representation for an angry badger, but Brookshine was glad to see him nonetheless. His tail had almost lost all feeling by now, and the tom believed that perhaps he might’ve lost it permanently… He tried not to think too much about this, instead focusing on the coldness of the rock below him and his steady breathing. Just because he was safe didn’t meant everyone else was. Once it was revealed that Ebonystep still lay trapped under the rubble, the dark-furred tabby tried to get shakily to his paws. Though by the time he looked up, Rustlepaw had already dragged him out— As well as Raccoonspring, who was snoring away. If their lives weren’t currently in danger, Brookshine likely would’ve snorted and rolled his eyes. Only his lazy brother would find a way to get a quick nap in, even in a time of life and death. Luckily, Rustlepaw seemed to share his frustrations and was dealing with him efficiently, so he left them to it. He seemed to like the novice enough, so maybe being awoken by her wouldn’t be too much of an issue. As the chaos from earlier finally seemed to be settling, Brookshine threw his gaze around the lot of them. To say they were a mess was an understatement. Hobbling over to his novice, who was trying to comfort Meadowpaw, he gently touched Branchpaw with his tail-tip. “Are you okay?” He didn’t try and think about how the younger cat’s sister might not be, instead focusing on what he could do right in that moment to make Branchpaw feel better. He quickly realised that there wasn’t anything he had the power to do right now, unless he had the strength and fortitude to bash a hole into the pile of rocks now blocking the entrance they’d just walked through. With a sigh, he tried to smile at the novice though it didn’t exactly reach his eyes, and turned back to the others. “Ebonystep.” He called, flicking an ear anxiously. “I know you’re injured but you’re an excavator— You know these tunnels better than us, right? Do you think you could help us get outta here?” He wasn’t the leader, but he knew there was no other way out of this situation. His eyes blinked at Stonestar, as if waiting for the other tom to agree with him. Brookshine wasn’t overstepping by any means, but with the injuries a majority of them had… Well, you could say he was a little stressed. He didn’t want to think about how much exhaustion treating all of them will cause Spidershadow. First, they had to escape from the cold dampness crushing in on them.

Ebonystep BOT 14/12/2022 06:40
Staring off into the darkness of the leading cavern, Ebonystep could only think about his father. Shrewstripe only did what a father could when his kit was in trouble, but to Ebonystep, it means a lot. Almost too literally. In his current headache, he just wants to be home and get everyone patched up, and his father first came to mind. The larger tom was a role model, caring and trustworthy, but cautious and stern. To Ebonystep, that's what the group needed once the patrol reunited with the clan. In doing so, he could also go back to the novice den and hide behind the lichen wall once more... Brookshine's voice broke through Ebonystep's string of thoughts and he listened as he hobbled over a bit closer to the brown-furred cat. Parking himself at the bottom of a rock pile, he began processing the situation with Brookshine's words. He gave a slow, steady nod as he pieced together everything, weighing the pros and cons as he normally does when it comes to social situations. As he organized his thoughts, his eyes seemed to wander around and eventually resting on where Brookshine came from, Branchpaw. Once again Ebonystep felt guilty, but now it was laced with worry as he noticed how the little tabby got off far better than the rest of his family. By the time he realized, Ebonystep had already answered the question. With the relieved look washing over Brookshine's face, the little spotted cat knew he had to get his act together fast if that meant he could see his father again.

Branchpaw sniffled as his father’s paw reached out to him, seeing it swipe the air before finally landing on his face. The affection did little to assure him, and he tried to hold back more tears as he realized Crowstrike was injured as well. “Y-yeah, sure,” he said to the request of leading them back to their clanmates. His heart sank even more as Meadowpaw spoke, and he began to walk ahead of them, making sure the tip of his tail touched his father’s chest. Once with the rest of the patrol, he sat firmly in between his family. His eyes felt tired from his crying, and he just wanted to go home and cuddle with them and the rest of his family. He jumped when he felt a tail touch him. His mentor. His eyes scanned Brookshine’s form and he realized that not just Crowstrike and Meadowpaw was injured. Looking around at his clanmates, it seemed that most of them had some sort of injuries. “Y-yeah, I’m fine.” Branchpaw did perk up when Brookshine mentioned Ebonystep was still here. Getting back onto his paws, he looked at the older tom. “Please, help us get home.”

With every cat pulled out of harm’s way for the time being, they have been left with multiple new dilemmas: injured cats, multiple tunnels and no clear way of escape due to the large debris blocking the entrance. Their only option is clearly forward… But the question is, which way will they go?
PATH 1: Right Tunnel PATH 2: Middle Tunnel PATH 3: Left Tunnel
When providing your reply, please let Staff know which tunnel your cat is voting to go down! Whichever tunnel has the most votes will be the path that the patrol takes. You are more than welcome to discuss options in general two! NOTICE: A mod reply will be posted AFTER December 26th due to the holidays!

Stonestar With every cat within the patrol dug from the debris in one way or another, Stonestar feels a horribly knot fill his belly and crawl up his throat with bile. He had led his clanmates into this trouble, and deserved any and all repercussions to come— the fact that he was mostly unscathed aside from the blood trickling from a cut on his head only added insult to injury. The tom-cat momentarily considers if he should take up the role of Herbalist, if only to help Spidershadow and atone for his clear sins. Stonestar flattens his ears down at the thought before swiveling his gaze over to Dusklily after letting his eyes scan over each and everyone of their clanmates. ”...Believe so.” The tom-cat mews dully to Dusklily, before turning his sights onto his still conscious brother, Brookshine. He posed a good suggestion. Thank the ancestors. His previous attention to Rustlepaw and his apprentice is completely driven away for the time-being as he looks between his brother and the excavator with them, nodding his head in agreement. ”Brookshine’s right, you’re our best bet in navigating our way out of here, Ebonystep.” The grey leader states firmly before pushing forward, giving a flick of his tail as he looks ahead, his sight catching onto an array of three tunnels ahead of the group. ”There’s multiple tunnels, we can go off of a majority vote and what Ebonystep suggests.” The tabby states as he looks back to his clan. ”I… We’re going to get out of this, all of us. I got us into this mess, and I will see to it that I help bring us all out of it.” Stonestar tips his head and straightens his stance. He’s more than happy to let both of his advisors tear into him for his idiocy when they escape this hellish cave, but scolding now would do no one any good. Stonestar will make up for this mistake, and lead his clanmates, brothers and apprentice out of this mess— not even Starclan themselves could stop him. ”I… Think we should go down the tunnel in the middle, but I want all of your input as well.” Stonestar is voting for Path 2!

Listening to his leader, Ebonystep's attention wandered over to the tunnels. He listened enough to know they'll have to leave, and majority vote will be used. The voices from his clanmates asking him to get them home were nagging. He couldn't help but wonder what was beyond this cavern. Wolfbane cave was particularly dangerous, but not for obvious reasons. Many plants were poisonous, however they produced it. The cave itself wasn't close to the main tunnels of the camp. With the introduction of the mysterious ice, traversing this could be dangerous. With a few cautious steps, Ebonystep brought himself closer to the passages and waited. He listened and looked, trying to find the best way to go. "I don't trust this middle passage. Water doesn't mean out," the tom shouted back, turning his head only a little. "Who knows what uses that water anyhow." It's not that he hates Stonestar, or that he shouldn't be leading. He was just skeptical. The only ways left meant even colder temperatures. None of these passages were ideal, but it was all that they had. "As to not get stuck by narrowing tunnels, our best bet may be to head deeper into the cold." Ebonystep shook his pelt before pointing a shaking paw towards his chosen passage. Ebonystep is voting for Path 3!

Once arriving with the others Crowstrike took a quick sit trying to get a small bit of rest for his aching muscles. He gave a small boop with his nose to Branchpaw's head after his non-convincing "I'm fine." He tried rubbing his eyes again but without any real improvement, maybe he should stop for now. He could barley see everyone, just enough to make out who was who, but that also meant he could see how injured they were. Bits of red everywhere. Finally shifting between his kits, Crowstrike's overwhelming sadness returned. It was temporarily covered up by the joy of being able to hold both of his kits but it didn't last long. His ears perked as talk of escape started. Not much else to do, but better than just sitting here!

(CONTINUING) He tuned back in as the others talked about the tunnels. Crowstrike didn't have any real idea of how to get out so he was open to all ideas. Crowstrike felt guilty in his own way for letting the others come along without even trying to talk Stonestar out of the idea, or at least wait until morning. So the tom gave more sympathy to the leader rather than some kind of hatred. On that note, while he did not disagree with Stonestar's choice of path, Crowstrike thought Ebony may have been more suited to make the call. To heck with all the sadness and soft voices! Without much time for any other cat to respond Crowstrike shot up saying more loudly than the others "Makes sense to me Ebonystep! I have no clue about any of this, so anything you say will make sense to me!"As Crowstrike said this he walked over to the injured Ebonystep and got under him, pushing up and lifting him to practically have the tom ride on Corwstrike's back. "I'll be your legs if you'll be my eyes!" Crowstrike tried to sound as energetic as possible to lift the other's spirits but in reality Crow didn't have much of his own. The pain was setting in and he just wanted to get home. "I'll go wherever Ebonystep tells me to!" Crowstrike also votes for Path 3!

Dusklily The she-cat glanced around the group of cats, taking in their facial expressions, their injuries. Trying to stave off the growing dread in her belly, Dusklily murmured a soft "Thank StarClan" -- at least they were all alive. She listened silently to Stonestar as he spoke, focusing on his words to ignore the pain she was becoming more and more aware of from the cut on her haunches. Her ear twitched slightly at her leader's suggestion -- as if he knew his way around down here. At least he was willing to hear others' opinions. Dusklily watched Ebonystep surveying the tunnels, wishing she had any idea which path was best. They all looked dark and cramped and cold. She didn't like it down here, where she couldn't see the stars. The she-cat shuddered, fluffing up her pelt, but took a deep breath -- focus on getting out, not on all the rock above your head. We're going to get out. Her green gaze lingered on the leftmost tunnel, then on Ebonystep's shaky paw, and then Stonestar's solemn face. Personally, her feelings echoed Crowstrike's, but she chose a less passionate response; she didn't want to completely undermine Stonestar's authority. "I don't know anything about the tunnels, so if Ebonystep thinks that's best, I'd say we should go that way." Dusklily votes for Path 3!

Branchpaw listened to the adults, glued to his father's and sibling's side only until Crowstrike moved. Although he wanted to help his father more, he instead pressed up more against Meadowpaw, urging her to stand up since the group was deciding where to go. He looked at all the options briefly before his gazed landed on the left most tunnel. He didn't know exactly why Ebonystep said that this was the best way, but the excavator had more experience in the tunnels than anyone else here. So he must know what he's talking about... right? His ears lowered sadly, if only he was taught how to navigate the tunnels too... maybe he could help Ebonystep escort the patrol. Oh, if only Stonestar gave him an excavator mentor. Using his face to nudge Meadowpaw towards the tunnel that most voiced their support of going, he avoided looking at his own mentor. "I agree with Dusklily and Papa," he muttered. Branchpaw votes for Path 3!

With the majority of the votes directed toward taking path three, Stonestar stepped aside to allow Ebonystep & Crowstrike forward through the chosen tunnel. The patrol begins their march forward, with those that are able to turning their heads to look around their surroundings… But nothing seems to stand out to any of the patrolling cats, much to the relief of many. The lack of sound shows promise that perhaps there won’t be another cave-in, although it doesn’t show promise that there’s a way out through it, either. A deafening silence falls between the Soaringclan cats in the tunnel as they pad against the damp dirt, each following Crowstrike & Ebonystep’s leads through the area. The peace that settles between each cat is much needed & appreciated by all as they walk, although the silence is less than companionable. … But the silence also leaves room for the strangest sound emerging from ahead of any of the Soaringclan cats. … The sound of something wet, similar to their own paws shuffling against the wet dirt underneath them. But… It’s coming from ahead of them, and no one’s split off from each other— so what could it be? Maybe it’s just their minds playing tricks on them. Wary glances are distributed amongst those most skeptical in the darkness, but they’re given no choice but to push forward… … But even then, there seems to be a faded, familiar scent… Wonder what that could be about?
10:24
Stonestar It would be a lie to say that his pride hadn’t taken a much deserved hit at his clanmates’ lack of confidence in him, but Stonestar decided it best to make no comment ( why the hell should he? He’s the one that got them into this mess after all ), as the patrol treks forward and into the tunnel chosen by the most experienced of them all. The tom doesn’t enjoy the silence, but it’s far better than having his ears chewed off by his advisors for being such a fool. That is… Until his ears twitch at the sound of wet dirt and something familiar yet wrong hitting his nose. The tom scrunches up his snout in disappreciation of the assaulting scent, alarm prickling at his pelt. ”Does anyone else hear… Or smell that?” He questions warily, giving a side eyed glance to the others with him. Maybe his mind was playing tricks on him, or maybe… Maybe the rumors he’d heard about prior were true. His frown deepens at the idea. (edited)

The little tom almost wished that the others disagreed with his choice of tunnels, albeit it was a better choice amongst the three. Ebonystep wasn't fearful of the cave, but the strange happenings are making him all the more wary. Taking their first steps down the tunnel, the quiet let his mind wander. He thought about the cave and the wonders (as well as horrors) possibly hidden within. He thought about the patrol, and how unsure everyone was due to the silence. He also thought about his father back home, how worried he would be when he finds the patrol filled with his clan came back in shambles... He heard the wet dirt sounds while he thought, but he passed them off as Crowstrike's pawsteps below. When Stonestar spoke his worry is when Ebonystep started listening. Soon enough, his head lifted up with his ear pricked as he heard the soft sounds, and then it fell back as the stench hit his nose. Ebonystep leaned down to the advisor and whispered in his ear, "Keep your senses sharp."

”Pfft, yeah let’s just go further into the fucking death pit. Woohoo. Good job team.” Rustlepaw’s bemusement was laced with cynicism, as was her tone. The mottled feline rolled her eyes and flexed her claws, purposefully scraping them against the cold stone and looking at Stonestar pointedly for any reaction. Maybe even a frown, or a snort? There was nothing, which agitated her further, but it wasn’t like she expected anything more than silence. Without much to say herself, however, Rustlepaw marched forwards with the patrol, running her tongue across her muzzle to taste the gentle pang of hurt as her back leg complained. Walking at an awkward angle wasn’t an option, because that would look weird, so Rustlepaw forced herself to straighten up as she moved through the cave and weaved her way towards the front of the patrol. Rustlepaw’s hackles slowly rose at the mention of the odd smell. Fear prickling her heart before it was replaced with her normal moxie. ”What? It’s probably a rotting corpse or something.” Rustlepaw tossed her head back, shaking her fur out and parting her lips to taste the air. It was then, as she paused, that she caught the second track of footsteps. ”Oooh,,, maybe it’s a caVe gHOsT..!!” Rustlepaw looked at Stonestar’s wary face — lashing her tail as she sneered. ”How scary! Are you for real? Nothing alive can be down here ‘sides from a mole. Here, look.” Rustlepaw pelted forward, ”OOGA BOOGA!! CAVE GHOST!! When he finally pulled himself from sleep, it was hard to stay in an awakened state. His head hurt, but it was more or less a dull (yet persistantly annoying) headache that relentlessly pounded with his heart beat. But there was something more- a sharp, fiery pain in the side of his jaw whenever he attempted to part them. The gray tom winced, raising his paw to rub along the edges of his mouth, only to find himself rewarded with more pain. "....Nnnnfff." The lazy warrior groaned weakly, watching as a dribble of drool fell to his paws. What was wrong with him- rabies? Could you get rabies from rocks? No....that seemed outlandish. Frankly, Raccoonspring was always lazy, but perhaps his (typically sarcastic) spirit was a lot more dull than usual. Something didn't feel right, and not just about the tunnel up ahead. He'd gone with Ebonystrike's decision because he seemed knowledgeable in his craft, but also because Raccoonspring was too lazy to think on his own. Making those rusty gears grind in his head right now required much more energy than he possessed, even after his long dirt-nap. But his face...his beautiful face felt wrong. His bite seemed off, uncomfortable, misplaced. It was difficult to talk, and based on the dribble of drool, he wasn't able to properly close his mouth. Or really open it much further. The warrior hung in the back of the patrol, dragging his feet and trying to wrap his mind around his own situation while fighting through the burning pain. It was hard to focus on their situation when everything about his jaw felt off. Also, it was a little hard to throw in his two cents- not that Stonestar was probably particularly upset about that. "....Badffer..." Badger, maybe it was a badger.

Leading the way Crowstrike tried to use any sense of light to make sure not to trip while also taking verbal directions from Ebony. More than once he wanted to turn around and check in with everyone but thought everything was alright if no one was outwardly complaining. At least, for now. There wasn’t much to go off of but the heat radiated from Ebonystep was a nice comfort. After not being able to feel much Crowstrike could now feel everything. All over hurt and it was made worse from the overall cold air. After a minute he gave a small whisper ”How you doing, Ebony?” Although a small groan was an answer enough. Then came sounds. Crow could hear all the footsteps behind him, but in front? No cat made a claim of walking in front of the blinded advisor, so what was it? His muscles became tenser with each step until it was almost too hard to move. Not wanting to stop the others he pressed on. With new focus on his senses a smell came. It was familiar? However Crow’s mind wondered too fast to figure out what it was. “Yeah, I smell it, Stonestar.” His voice was quiet with concern, something just prickled Crowstrike’s fur. He flicked an ear at Ebony’s words, getting even more fearful. However that was interrupted with Rustlepaw’s sarcasm. Of course his apprentice didn’t take it seriously. Everyone almost died and they still can’t take the situation serious. Who knows what’s here with them? Their incoming voice caused Crow to blurt out quickly “Rustlepaw!” followed by a more composed “Please, you’re hurt so don’t exhaust yourself even more. It’s not a ghost.”

He couldn't help but be annoyed by Rustlepaws outwardly oblivious attitude, even to their own injuries. No matter how much the novice tried to hide their injured leg, Ebonystep knew what hiding and injury looked like, and it was pasted all over them. However, Rustlepaw's antagonistic statements did send a shiver down Ebonystep's spine. If it was a rotting corpse, what made it down this far without causing a cave in, or worse yet, how did the creature die? He just had to shake his head to remove the thought, but the echoes passing down the cave kept pushing it back. "Rustlepaw," the excavator barked. His tone showed nothing but annoyance towards them as he eyed them down from Crowstrike's back. "For your sake, let's hope that nothing heard you. I wouldn't want the last thing you see is your father's stoned face." He didn't mean to sound so stark, but he had noticed the tension between the family. His curiosity escaped him while he was avoiding unhelpful thoughts.

As the patrol chatters amongst one another about what the scent that they had picked up could possibly be as Rustlepaw charged forward, the silence provided by the supposedly empty tunnel remains heavy and foreboding. No cat seems to pay much mind to this as they traverse slowly, their conversations ongoing with their slow steps. … … The silence becomes pierced very suddenly— the sound of squeaking and fluttering wings can be heard from somewhere deep within the tunnel, alongside a surprised yelp from the novice who had come running down the tunnel before a yell quickly followed her cry. "YOU AREN'T MY DAD!" The cats who can still see within the patrol are suddenly blinded by a black fuzz swooping down on them, startled shrieks coming from the group diving down and brushing against the cats. Bats! With no other choice but to move forward, the Soaringclan patrol is forced to rush ahead and down the dark tunnel in hopes of evading the startled animals raining down upon them. Branchpaw was the first to come charging down the tunnel, with Meadowpaw very hot on his tail. Neither apprentice was keen to stay here much longer, especially with the sudden emergence of the swarm of bats. Close behind them ( trailing just after Meadowpaw, to be exact ), was Dusklily who seemed motivated to ensure that the young cats of the patrol were safe. Stonestar, Brookshine and Raccoonspring channeled their brotherly bond and energy with one another and ran practically neck to neck after Rustlepaw, who bolted down the tunnel like a bat out of hell ( ha, ironic ). However, Crowstrike was right on the tails of the three brothers with Ebonystep in tow on his back. Despite his lack of vision, the help of Ebonystep’s guiding words were enough to allow the dark tom-cat to keep up and even somewhat surpass the brothers, nearly catching up to Rustlepaw. Rustlepaw, on the other paw? Continues to run like hell, not giving a shit about the cats with her as she bolts down the tunnel— although her fellow novices were able to keep pace with her, alongside ( maybe disappointingly ), Dusklily. Because of this, they were the first four cats to lose the swarm of bats chasing after the patrol… And catch multiple intriguing details revolving around the tunnel. The smell of earth. The dirt that floods their senses is sudden and invasive, but very welcome when accompanied by the sound of song birds. Following this scent, however, is the strong smell of herbs; it’s almost stronger than the dirt, and causes the four cats currently present ( Rustlepaw, Dusklily, Branchpaw and Meadowpaw ), to scrunch up their noses and nearly rear back— lavender and catmint fills the air, strong and invasive with a hint of… Lemon? But not only this, but there’s a final lingering scent that becomes noticed when the rest of the patrol catches up with the four front leading cats. Anger. Furious, burning, vile, anger… But who, or what, could be angry and with them in the tunnels? Maybe that doesn’t matter right now, because upon closer inspection, the patrol comes to notice that the tunnel has softened significantly under their paws alongside whatever remained in front of them, which seemed to be the end of the tunnel. Maybe digging can help in this situation? We’ve almost reached the end, folks! If you want your cat to begin digging at the very end of the tunnel ( directly in front of them ), come into #event-rolls & roll a d20! Any rolls that are 10 or above are considered passing and will contribute to digging out of the tunnel. (edited)

”And for your sake I hope that you learn when and who to speak to.” Rustlepaw whirled around, lips curled suddenly in a spike of aggression. The mottled apprentice fixed Ebonystep with a steely glare, not bothering to acknowledge Crowstrike as she rounded. Who did he think he was? Talking to her like that. Stupid piece of shit. And he had the gall to bring Stonestar into it? Oh fuck OFF! ”Bitch!” Rustlepaw added with a sneer, spitting at Ebonystep before turning around and continuing her caterwauls as she stalked forward. ….about three steps. Rustlepaw jumped at the sudden squeak of bats overhead, landing awkwardly on her sprained leg as hundreds of the flying rodents came flooding through the cave. Though Rustlepaw’s pace increases subsequently, she’s determined to make a show out of it. Snapping at some of the critters that fly too close to her maw. Eventually silence greeted Rustlepaw, alongside the members of the fated patrol. They weren’t as important as her, though. Duh. Rustlepaw was first in line! Mistaking the scent of anger with her own, Rustlepaw wasted no time in moving forward and digging her claws into the soft dirt. ’Whatever.’ Rustlepaw muttered to herself, ’Its almost over anyway.’ ’Whatever.’ ’Whatever whatever whatever.’ Mentions [ @PlatinumPlayz @Volt | Crow / Rain ] (edited)

He expected Rustlepaw to have a backlash against him, and he was prepared for it. Ebonystep is used to cold stares and gritted teeth and his expression showed it: he seemed almost bored before the novice turned away, narrowing his eyes as they did. They'll get themselves killed for that attitude of theirs. With a new grudge against Stonestar and his kin, Ebonystep wasn't going to forget the encounter easily, and it didn't cover it when the squeaking of bats appeared. He froze up before shuddering, shouting "YOU FUCKER!" to Rustlepaw as he spotted them darting down the tunnel with the flying fiends in tow. "That novice..." he muttered as Crowstrike darted down the tunnel. Not realizing the danger they've stuck us in, won't last long as an excavator. His snout curled in disgust as his thought overwhelmed his focus. The concept of having to 'work' with such a rude cat kept him occupied while his clanmates pawed at dirt, but even still the little tom sensed the anger in the cavern.

With the combined efforts of the patrolling cats, and some lovely vocabulary provided by Rustlepaw, the group was able to successfully begin caving in the dirt that blocked the way in front of them, allowing them to create a cat-sized tunnel that would allow even the smallest of cats within the grouping to pass through— although it would be a tight, claustrophobic squeeze for all involved. As the cats pooled out of the cave and into the makeshift tunnel, Meadowpaw was the first to pass through the opening and toward the light beginning to shine down on the escaping cats pelts. ... Where she swore she could see a feline figure in the distance, moving away from the tunnel— their pelt either obscured by something or too far for her to identify ... Before the tortoiseshell novice could do anything with this information, Stonestar gently pushed forward as the feline fully disappeared from her line of sight. They'd have to start heading home and licking their wounds, now. (edited)

Shortly after Crowstrike arrived with the novices, Ebonystep rolled off of his back and rested away from the patrol as they dug. This coincidently kept most of the bats off of everyone else. Once the tunnel was done, Ebonystep's ear perked up. For the first time in a while, the little tom smiled softly as the thought of seeing his father was welcomed into his mind. Although the tunnel was complete, it would be a tight squeeze for all who entered, and an even tighter one if Crowstrike continued carrying the concussed excavator. Ebonystep was insistant on going through on his own, and gave no reason to change. Thankfully, the walls were close enough so that they could be used as a soft support, but still loose so that dirt fell from the makeshift ceiling when Ebonystep stumbled into the wall. By the time he was out, he had to close his eyes tight as the sun was too bright for him. Once he was adjusted, Ebonystep noticed the red sheen across an eye, along with the clustered blood above it. His white paws were stained red and he couldn't help but lower his gaze in sorrow.
